The Walking Dead Whispers to ScreamsThe Walking Dead, Volume 23: Whispers into Screams by Robert Kirkman, et al.

The last volume in the series ended on a high note, with the introduction of the Whisperers, and I was eager to see where Kirkman was going to take that idea.  With Rick and his group finally rebuilding their own civilization, it was good to see that they weren’t without outside threats (disregarding the walkers, of course), and it was a new enough idea that he wasn’t just bringing in another Negan or Governor.

Unfortunately, Kirkman really doesn’t take this idea anywhere, so I was a little disappointed.  On the other hand, it was refreshing to see that two separate groups in the world of The Walking Dead could exist without killing each other, and it’s not like Kirkman didn’t do anything with the idea.  It’s clear that there’s going to be a divide in Rick’s group over the circumstances that developed from their encounter with the Whisperers; I just wanted to see more done with the idea of the Whisperers themselves in regard to Rick and his group.

Maybe Kirkman will surprise me again.  Maybe this will be another diversion down a road that I didn’t see that will be just as satisfying as what I was hoping to see.  It has happened before.  All I know is I want to know more about the Whisperers, and the way this arc ends, I think I’ll be getting my wish.
